[The Jukebox] S6E11 – Macross 82-99 – Fun Tonight

A genre that I have been listening to a lot in the last couple of years has been “Future Funk”… ahem, I mean “Future Funk 因為ヾ”

A genre born from the illustrious vaporwave sub-genre which was brought to popularity in the early parts of 2010’s with its sampling of music from the ’70s and ’80s English & Japanese pop and disco songs and the incorporation of synth-wave and other sub-genres of vaporwave and citypop.

[The JukeBox] S6E10 – Joji – Slow Dancing in the Dark

George Miller made his name on the internet way before the release and popularity of Slow Dancing in the Dark. For several years, George was under the persona of Filthy Frank.

[The JukeBox] S6E9 – WILLOW – Wait a Minute!

In my previous Jukebox, I wrote how the video-sharing service, TikTok was exposing artists and their music. Here is another song that was made popular from the app.

Will Smith’s daughter Willow burst onto the music scene at just 9 years old when she released the infamous song, “Whip My Hair” and since then she has gone and released 3 albums (The latest only being in July of this year)

Here is “Wait a Minute!” which has a nice chill beat.

Wait a minute!
I think I left my conscience on your front door step
Woah woah, wait a minute!
I think I left my consciousness in the 6th dimension
But I’m here right now, right now

Just sitting in a cloud, oh wow
I’m here right now, right now with you, oh wow, oh wow
I don’t even care
Run my hands through your hair
You wanna run your fingers through mine
But my dreads too thick and that’s alright

Hold on, wait a minute!
Feel my heart’s intention
Hold on, wait a minute!
I left my consciousness in the 6th dimension
Left my soul in his vision
Let’s go get it, oh, oh
Let’s go get it, oh, oh

Some things don’t work
Some things are bound to be
Some things, they hurt
And they tear apart me
You left your diary at my house
And I read those pages, you really love me, baby

Some things don’t work
Some things are bound to be
Some things, they hurt
And they tear apart me
But I broke my word, and you were bound to see
And I cried at the curb
When you first said “Oel ngati kameie”

Hold on, wait a minute!
Feel my heart’s intention
Hold on, wait a minute!
I left my consciousness in the 6th dimension
Left my soul in his vision
Let’s go get it, oh, oh
Let’s go get it, oh, oh

Some people lie to me
Some just tryin’ to get by
Some people I can’t hurt
Some just rather say goodbye, bye
Hold on, wait a minute!
Feel my heart’s intention

Hold on, wait a minute!
I left my consciousness in the 6th dimension
Left my soul in his vision
Let’s go get it, oh, oh
Let’s go get it, oh, oh

[The JukeBox] S6E8 – Kero Kero Bonito – Flamingo

With the rise of the short-form video sharing servie, Tik Tok, (formally known as Musical.ly), it has allowed users to lipsync themselves with audio clips such as music pieces and audio recordings of people talking.

There has been also exposure of edited songs such as ‘bad guy but with a twist’ where they edit Billie Eilish’s ‘bad guy’ with a soundclip from Spongebob Squarepants.

One thing that TikTok has also exposed is indie artists with their lyrics being dubbed or acted out by users of the app.

A song called “Flamingo” from British/Japanese star “Kero Kero Bonito” was made famous to highlight that no matter what colour you are, you are ‘pretty cool’.

Here it is:

This is the 2nd of 5 special editions featuring the work of Sash!
Today, we have Mysterious Times

YouTube:

Spotify:

Lyrics:

Life
Mysterious life
Where we’re moving around, dancing the rhythm of life.

Time
Mysterious time
Where we’re counting the hours and days to the end of our time.

And we’re feeling the change and we don’t know why
Choose one direction just one more time
Don’t say I’m thinking too much if you see what’s behind.

[Chorus]
And these are Mysterious Times
Mysterious Times
No trick of the mind
For this moment I feel like we live in Mysterious Times.
If you see what’s behind, these are Mysterious Times.

Soul
I feel my soul
For this moment nobody can stop me from flying so high.

Real
Nothing is real
In a world of illusion you only see what you feel.

And we’re feeling the change and we don’t know why
Choose one direction just one more time
Don’t say I’m thinking too much if you see what’s behind.

[Chorus]
If you see what’s behind, these are Mysterious Times.

Feel you give me love again
Round and round we go, each time I hear you say

This is the rhythm of the night
The night
Oh yeah
The rhythm of the night

This is the rhythm of my life
My life
Oh yeah
The rhythm of my life

Won’t you teach me how to love learn
There’ll be nothing left for me to yearn
Think of me burn and let me hold your hand

I don’t wanna face the world in tears
Please think again I’m on my knees
Sing that song to me
No reason to repent

I know you wanna say it

This is the rhythm of the night

Welcome back everyone to the 2nd edition of the 6th series of The Jukebox. A look at music from past and present!

Now, I thought I had already featured this on a previous edition of The JukeBox (or even MusicLyricMonday/Friday) but I haven’t…so here is a classic from 2000, it is Mark McCabe’s, Maniac 2000! Enjoy!

Lyrics, YouTube and Spotify is all after the jump!

s6e02

Lyrics:

Yeah – yeah – yeah – yeah
all you guys better know the first verse
are you ready now
alright

She walked across the dance floor that night
she was dressed to kill
she was a sexy lady
she had to get her thrill

How’d she get him
how’d she know
and all the music – the beat – the tempo
she was all up for that night
she was in for a fright
standby

Back in the house for the year 2000
yeah – yeah – funky – yeah
she’s a craic – she’s a craic
she’s a maniac

Alright
she walked across the dance floor that night
she was dressed to kill
she was a sexy lady
she had to get her thrill

How’d she get him
how’d she know
and all the music – to beat – the tempo
she was all up for that night
she was in for a fright

She said: “Greetings”
hold tight with a new jam
hold tight with the mic in the left hand
it’s me and I’m up on the groove tip
are you ready now move to the roof

Now life; It has no meaning
are you ready now – move to the madness
on a party night to you
we bring this groove to you

Are you ready now – move to the groove
put your hands up in the air
one simple question to answer
“Are. You. Ready!?”

Every single person in the house tonight
lets hear you singing she’s a maniac
she’s a maniac, maniac on the floor
and she’s dancin’
and she’s dancin’ like she never did before
right here on the Dublin dance floor

She’s a maniac, maniac on the floor
and she’s dancin’
and she’s dancin’ like she never did before
audience participation time

She said put your hands in the air
side to side like you just don’t care
everybody in the house on the party night
scream it back to me
Oggie Oggie Oggie
Oi! Oi! Oi!

Rock it rock it baby baby
rock it rock it more
rock it rock it baby baby
rock it rock it dance floor
5. 4. 3. 2. 1.
take this house to the – maximum

She’s a maniac, maniac on the floor
and she’s dancin’
and she’s dancin’ like she never did before
the grand finale

This story has come real far
four years later now here we are
M.A.N.
I.A.C.
come with me
to the place to be

[The JukeBox] S6E1 – Infected Mushroom – The Pretender

Welcome everyone to a brand new series for 2014 of The JukeBox. The JukeBox is my personal look into some amazing songs that I have come across lately, whether it would be new or old.

Today, we are looking at the Number 1 song for osu! for 2013. It’s a cover from the Foo Fighters, it’s The Pretender from Infected Mushroom!

YouTube and Spotify embed beneath the lyrics!

s6e01

Lyrics:

Keep you in the dark
You know they all pretend
Keep you in the dark
And so it all began

Send in your skeletons
Sing as their bones come marching in again
They need you buried deep
The secrets that you keep are ever ready
Are you ready?
I’m finished making sense
Done pleading ignorance
That whole defense

Spinning infinity, boy
The wheel is spinning me
It’s never-ending, never-ending
Same old story

What if I say I’m not like the others?
What if I say I’m not just another one of your plays
You’re the pretender
What if I say that I will never surrender?

What if I say I’m not like the others?
What if I say I’m not just another one of your plays
You’re the pretender
What if I say that I will never surrender?

In time or so I’m told
I’m just another soul for sale… oh, well
The page is out of print
We are not permanent
We’re temporary, temporary
Same old story

What if I say I’m not like the others?
What if I say I’m not just another one of your plays
You’re the pretender
What if I say that I will never surrender?

What if I say I’m not like the others?
What if I say I’m not just another one of your plays
You’re the pretender
What if I say that I will never surrender?

I’m the voice inside your head
You refuse to hear
I’m the face that you have to face
Mirrored in your stare
I’m what’s left, I’m what’s right
I’m the enemy
I’m the hand that’ll take you down
Bring you to your knees

So who are you?
Yeah, who are you?
Yeah, who are you?
Yeah, who are you?
Yeah, who are you?
Yeah, who are you?
Yeah, who are you?
Yeah, who are yooooooooooooooooooooou?!

What if I say I’m not like the others?
What if I say I’m not just another one of your plays
You’re the pretender
What if I say that I will never surrender?

What if I say I’m not like the others?
What if I say I’m not just another one of your plays
You’re the pretender
Keep you in the…

Keep you in the dark
You know they all pretend
Keep you in the dark
And so it all began
