[YCFRO #3] Treyarch/Activision

So today, Treyarch decided to remove the Nuketown 2025 map/playlist from the new Call of Duty game, Black Ops 2 without any prior notice.

A tweet was sent out by David Vonderhaar saying

Nuketown 2025 / 24-7 will be back for special events. You can always play it with your friends in Custom Games.

Now, this is a bit of a kick in the teeth for everyone who pre-ordered. Not one person can play this game at all. There was nothing on Amazon’s page, the official website or anything in game that suggests that the map/playlist was only available for the weekend, just the Double XP event (Which was somewhat broken). Since everyone loved the map in Call of Duty: Black Ops, people (like myself) jumped on the offer that us gamers were to get the map as a pre-order bonus for purchasing the game.

This “Pre-order” bonus only lasted a week. Again, there was nothing about this anywhere saying that it was available for the first week of the game. So, why did they do this? Was not enough of people playing the regular maps or was there some internal reason that they had to remove the map from the game.

If it was for technical reasons, then yes, that would be understandable, but when David says on twitter that it will be coming back for “events”, that makes you wonder why they even gave you the map in the first place.

I went on the Call of Duty forums to see about a completely unrelated issue to this issue and there was nothing about it (Lobby are having a hard time actually playing hence I am writing this and not actually playing atm) and there was about 100+ threads, most of which were being closed by Activison mods about their frustration about this sudden removal. It would have been nice for Treyarch to say something in advance about this before removing the map.

From what I have been reading on the Call of Duty forums, people are saying that you can get a full refund if you bought the game of Amazon if you still have the packaging that the game came in. I am not going to be returning my copy of the game any time soon since I actually like this game. Treyarch just needs to sort the problems out. I know a lot of people are going to go back to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 until they resolve the issues with Black Ops 2. Dunno what to say to that, but just…..

You can fuck right off, Treyarch and Activision.
