  • Padraig.blog V1.2

    Josh Couch

Today, I am announcing the launch of Padraig.blog V1.2 – Back to WordPress edition!

In this massive update, I have decided to move back to WordPress from Ghost. Reasons as to why I have moved back to WordPress can be found here

I am hoping to be blogging a bit more in the coming days as I am getting into my new routine with the exercising and diet. It has been crazy!!

Older posts (2016 and older) do not have any feature images as they were lost in the transition back from Ghost to WP. If I am really bored one day, I might sort that out.

But this is where we are for now. Disqus is up and running again and I will be making tweaks to this site where possible for AMP/SEO and more! 🙂

  • Switching from Ghost back to WordPress

It was not even 2 weeks ago that I blogged about how much I love Ghost and that it is a great alternative to WordPress

And yes, I do love it. But I do miss the customisation that I had with WordPress.
Plugins, and ever expanding plugin & theme system is something that I miss with WP.

If Ghost had a easy plugin / theme system, then I would probably stay with them.

While I have had my share of issues with Ghost recently, it is not the sole reason for changing.

I (unlike some people) like change from time to time and I have always had a soft spot for WordPress (Given that I look at it every day).

When it comes to posts, the editor in WP is second to none. It’s just fantastic. Post types also help.

Expect this to be changed over in the next few days 🙂

  • SmackDown LIVE 12/09/2017 Title Match Predictions

Tonight, SmackDown LIVE is in Sin City and with it brings a whopping 3 title matches. I am not going to go into detail about it (since it ain’t a PPV)

AJ Styles (C) vs Tye Dillinger for the United States Championship

    • PREDICTION: Tye Dillinger to win. I feel this would be an upset victory. Tye never had a belt in NXT and it would be great for him to have one on the main roster.

The Usos (C) vs The New Day in a Sin City Street Fight for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship

    • PREDICTION: The Usos to retain. While this feud has been great, we’ll be back to the ‘Hot Potato’ times with the SD Tag Team Belts.

    and

Natalya (C) vs Naomi for the SmackDown Women’s Championship

    • PREDICTION: Natalya to retain. Naomi’s reign is over when she loses her re-match clause. I think this belt needs to stay with Natty to make her look very very strong going into Survivor Series.

Also featuring tonight, a special appearance from Vince McMahon as his son Shane was suspended as SmackDown Commissioner last week.

What do you think? Let me know below!!

  • First Day at the Gym later today! [UPDATE]

To say that I will be scared for my life would be an understatement.

For the first time in about 10 years, I am joining the local Gym to try and shed some pounds off me.

I blogged about this in my previous post here where I said that I am going to make some changes.

UPDATE: Went to the Gym and I sweat A LOT! Like so much I thought I was having a shower while exercising. Oh well. Back to it on Friday! 😀

  • New Month, New Starts and New Things to learn!

Today is September 1st and over the last few days, I have begun a journey that see big changes for me over the next coming months and possibly even years!

    First of all, I’m FAT!

I have decided to join WeightWatchers as of yesterday and I have a big goal in mind… Time to get back into it again!!

Also, I am now PROPERLY learning how to drive!

I have been putting it on the long finger since I was 17 (I’m now 25) and it’s time for me to start driving. My theory test is at the end of the month, and this time I AM DOING IT!

    No excuses!

While there isn’t many goals, this is the start of something even bigger!

Let’s see what the next few months have got in store for me! 🙂

  • Sendmail, please don’t break Postfix

As I look after most of the services that run on my server (Titan), I experiement around with new scripts, plugins and other bits and pieces.

But there can be times where it does more damage than good.

I wanted to install a CMS (Which I will not name), but it decided that it wanted to install SendMail, which is fine because it was part of this package.
What I didn’t realise that when it installs SendMail, it uninstalls Postfix.

I use postfix for all my entire email set up (Managing email addresses & logins).

So, me being me, I uninstalled sendmail sudo apt remove sendmail – All good! Sendmail is not on my system…but now I can’t establish an SMTP connection on my MS Outlook.

    What gives?

I attempted to do sudo service postfix start and that wall showed up OK.
sudo service postfix status showed that it was started but I still couldn’t make an SMTP connection.

I ran netstat -tulpn to find out what ports were open. Sometimes you can find out what process is using that port, but in this instance, it showed.

    Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program nametcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:587 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN -

    Hmm, that looks ok…

So after a bit of digging around and trying to adjust postfix configs, I decided to stop postfix sudo service postfix stop and re-ran netstat -tulpn

    Result:

    Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program nametcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:587 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN -

    O_O…What…But I STOPPED Postfix
How can it still be listening on 587 if there is no service???!?!?!

With a bit of headscratching, I ran netstat -tulpn | grep :587 and it returned:

    Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program nametcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:587 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 15463/sendmail

But…I uninstalled sendmail … How? Anyway, I couldn’t sudo service stop sendmail cause it was already gone, so I did the old kill -9 <pid> trick and that indeed killed it! Ran sudo service postfix start and we are back in action.

    A valuable lesson learned today!

TL;DR – Sendmail doesn’t stop the service even if you uninstall, so you have to kill the process BEFORE uninstalling it.
