A couple of days ago, I bought the domain padraig.xyz but I didn’t know at the time what I was going to do with it.
But tonight, I have decided that I am going to be creating a gaming blog where I talk tips and tricks and have some information regarding games that I like playing.
This will include Final Fantasy XIV, Euro Truck Simulator 2 and more in the pipeline.

For a while now I have been thinking whether if I should cover this year’s E3 press conferences.

I have decided NOT to cover them this year for a couple of reasons.
1) What are they going to show? Just games I suppose. Nothing too ground-breaking compared to last year’s reveal of the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One. More “Next-Gen” titles.
2) MY preference in gaming has changed. Since early this year, I have mostly made the shift to PC gaming playing a lot of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, and other PC titles. I have started to lose interest in the consoles since I was disappointed in the consoles that were released. I am disappointed mainly because of the lack of the “progress” that has been made on these systems. They are just sticking in cheapo parts that is now holding the gaming industry back and it will suffer as a result.
Even though I won’t cover them here on the blog, I will give my thoughts about them on my Twitter*.
* I will be giving my thoughts on the @VampiricPadraig Twitter account instead of the @FahyIE account because I am trying to refocus content to the other account to get it used.

Welcome to the new theme on PadraigFahy.com. It is known as Casper and is based on the Ghost theme that is used for that blogging platform.
Thought I would go with a minimal theme for now for easier reading.
The menu is not perfect, I will have to fix that. And some widgets needs to be brought back, but that is not a big job.

PadraigFahy.com is now running WordPress 3.9! That should hopefully mean that either we are going to see WP 4 or perhaps it will be 3.10. What do you think?
At times you have technical difficulties and it takes time to get the problems resolved, but there is times where even simple things take more time than what it should be.
This particular website is about 18 months old and has been moved from shared hosting to a dedicated server since.
With running a site, technologies tend to get updated which can cause problems on the server.
In my case, I was running Ubuntu 13.04 with Apache2, PHP and MySQL… Everything was working perfectly. Couldn’t complain. Then I had to update Ubuntu to 13.10 because of end of life support for the product.
That is when the shit hit the fan. Apache broke. Not good. Could I get it working? Barely. After a while, I just gave in and switched to nginx. Everything was sorted. As time went on, things were getting slower and then….
Slowness when using SSH, sites kept crashing… Turned out to be php5-fpm (which is nginx’s PHP) that was maxing out the I/O on the CPU whenever anyone visited this site. Some plugin that I am using is using a lot of PHP (not sure which) processing and restarting it would only cure the problem for a few minutes.
I said “Right, I’m reinstalling the OS”. So yesterday (3rd), I started to backup the all the sites, databases and everything else and switched to Debian 7.
First impressions, a heck of a lot stable compared to Ubuntu and hasn’t crashed yet (Knock on wood). Sites are running smooth as butter and nothing to complain about.
I’m happy and also thankful to Pricetx for helping me throughout this process.
