I previously covered the history of Casiopea almost 2 years ago in #82 highlighting Galactic Funk, but this time, I’m highlighting their first track of their very first album.
Their self-titled album, released in May 1979 was released 2 years after their on-stage debut.
Oricon didn’t create an albums charts until 1987, so we do not know how well the album did.
The song would be re-released on their 1982 live album, Mint Jams.
Dance music from the early 2000s resonate with me quite a bit. It was something that was always played while at home or at school. Especially whenever I went to secondary school, some classmates with their phones (that we weren’t supposed to have) were banging out the likes of Darude, Scooter, Cascada.
At home, my father really enjoyed his dance music and would put on ‘Kiss’ or ‘The Box’ on the TV and if we were in the car, it was a pirate radio station, Energy 106.
There would be a rotating playlist on the TV, radio and my classmates phones which included ‘Shooting Star’,
Released in 2002 and appearing on the very first Clubland compilation album released in the summer of 02, it has always been a great song to sing and dance to.
Lyrics:
Where were you to hold my hand Do the things that we had planned Yes I need you by my side When things go crazy
I just need to know you care Guarantee that you’ll be there When I wake up in the night Will you be my guiding light?
I don’t care how far I’ll take you there tonight Just tell me where you are And everything’s gonna be alright
Just tell me where you are, where you are, where you are Like a shooting star across the midnight sky From far from afar just to be with you tonight Like a shooting star across the midnight sky From afar from afar just to be with you tonight
Where were you to hold my hand Do the things that we had planned Yes I need you by my side When things go crazy
I just need to know you care Guarantee that you’ll be there When I wake up in the night Will you be my guiding light?
Like a shooting star Like a shooting star across the midnight sky Wherever you are you’re gonna see me fly Like a shooting star across the midnight sky Wherever you are you’re gonna see me fly
Where were you to hold my hand Do the things that we had planned Yes I need you by my side When things go crazy
I just need to know you care Guarantee that you’ll be there When I wake up in the night Will you be my guiding light?
Where were you to hold my hand Do the things that we had planned Yes I need you by my side When things go crazy I just need to know you care Guarantee that you’ll be there When I wake up in the night Will you be my guiding light? Spoken with you to hold my hand
Back in May, hit Japanese female metal band, BABYMETAL, collabed with German electronic-metal band, Electric Callboy for their song RATATATA.
Who are BABYMETAL?
Originally, there were part of an idol group called Sakura Gakuin. These idol groups are formed whenever a student joins a club (an after-school activity) and they are taught music with like-minded individuals ran by talent agencies rather than the schools.
A club can have multiple members. With Sakura Gakuin, there were approx 10–12 members at any one time. Within these clubs, there would be ‘units’. This would be a collection of specific students who perform together under a dedicated name. In 2010, the “Heavy Metal Club” was formed with 3 of the Sakura Gakuin club, Suzuka Nakamoto (12), Yui Mizuno (11) and Moa Kikuchi (11). This would become BABYMETAL. The girls would perform under the names of Su-metal, Yui-metal and Moa-metal.
Traditionally, idol music tends to be very ‘poppy’, ‘positive’ and ‘light-hearted’. A clear example of this would be AKB48’s Colorcon Wink (below). Like Sakura Gakuin, AKB48 is an idol group with a lot more members, and they would be older. AKB48 would be one of, if not the most popular idol groups in Japan. So much so, they have many many many spinoff groups using the 48g name. AKB means Akihabara, which is an area in Tokyo, Japan. (Seriously, the rabbit hole on 48g groups goes very, very deep)
In 2018, Yui departed from the band due to poor health. In 2023, former Sakura Gakuin member, Momoko Okazaki joined the band. She performs under the name of Momo-metal.
BABYMETAL also have a backing band, “Kami Band” who are not officially recognised as members, but they are recognised and appreciated at their live concerts.
In the west, BABYMETAL became popular for their performances from their music videos and the fact that most bands in the west are 16+, when these girls were 12 and 13 when they broke America.
WWE featured their song KARATE for their show NXT Takeover: The End back in June 2016. They announced last night at WWE Summerslam, that BABYMETAL’s RATATATA will be the official theme for their upcoming show WWE Bash in Berlin on August 31st 2024.
Who are Electric Callboy?
Electric Callboy (fka. Eskimo Callboy) are an ‘electronicore‘ band from Germany. They were also formed in 2010 and are known for creating comedic songs, shows and videos.
In 2021, they submitted their song “Pump it” for the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest, but they were not included.

Back to Japan and back to 1983 for another Jukebox from Junko Yagami and was a prominent artist in the 70s and 80s. To date, they have released over 25 albums in 4 decades.
Today, Yagami resides in Los Angeles but flies to Japan to perform live.
黄昏のBAY CITY (“Bay City” here within) was released on the A Side of the 1983 Album ‘Full Moon’ and is considered another ‘staple’ with the City pop genre.

English
A~h, I follow you to The Bay city in twilight A~h, and if I see you there Just shut up and hold me
The smell of your cigarettes, and the cold kiss You blew to me, and then you disappeared If we had been honest, we’d still be in love This winter sea is laughing at me And the wind is freezing
I’m like one of the gulls, frozen to the spot The Bay city in twilight A~h, and your beloved Harbor is growing dark
Youth is like, a hidden knife We got tangled up, and my heart was cut open And I feel so silly now, with this painful love And you are the only man, who can heal this wound The only man
Like the sky, embracing the sea It was a miracle that we met Just one more time, just one more time Even just a vision of you
A~h, I follow you to The Bay city in twilight A~h, and if I see you there Just shut up and hold me
A~h, I follow you to The Bay city in twilight A~h, and if I see you there Just shut up and hold me
Time to head to 1996 for a Robert Miles song that always played second fiddle to Children.
The song was initially written and recorded by Polish singer Edyta Górniak, but it wouldn’t be released until a year AFTER the Robert Miles’ cover.
The female vocalist in this song is Maria Nayler. Nayler mostly contributed to songs in the same way that she did for One and One. At the time of writing, she hasn’t released any of her own music.
One and One was not part of Miles’ debut album Dreamland until a month after the initial European release of the album. It would be included with the US version and subsequent re-releases.
My father was a massive fan of Robert Miles and was very sad when Miles passed away in 2017. Most weekends in our house had some Robert Miles tune blasting out of the Pioneer IS-21MD.

Lyrics
The sky isn’t always blue The sun doesn’t always shine It’s alright to fall apart sometimes,
I am not always you And you are not always mine It’s alright to fall apart sometimes
After all is said and done One and one still is one When we cry, when we laugh I am half, you are half
The heart isn’t always true And I am not always fine We all have an angry heart sometimes
After all is said and done One and one still is one When we cry, when we laugh I am half, you are half
Look how far we have come One and one still is
One moon (one moon) One star (one star) I love the one we are One thread (one thread) One line (one line) Let’s stand still in time
One moon (one moon) One star (one star) I love the one we are One thread (one thread) One line (one line) That runs through our lives
After all is said and done One and one still is one When we cry, when we laugh I am half, you are half
Look how far we have come One and one still is one ah Ooh
Initially, I wasn’t sure if I was going to post about this or Metalingus since they are both good songs, but I have been enjoying ‘The Other Side’ a lot more recently.
The Other Side is a 2016 hit from American band, Alter Bridge. Most wrestling fans would be familiar with Alter Bridge as Metalingus became a household hit with Edge’s entrance in WWE.
In 2022, Edge turned heel (An evil/bad person) and debuted a new theme to go along with a new look and persona. That theme would be The Other Side.
With that, he formed a new stable in WWE called “The Judgement Day” initially adding Damien Priest, Rhea Ripley and Finn Bálor to the group. After only a couple of weeks, Edge was ejected from the group.
Edge went back to Metalingus after some time off and basically went back to the old persona. The Judgement Day continues to use The Other Side today as a stable theme. Each person within The Judgement Day (which now includes Dominik Mysterio & JD McDonagh) have their own individual theme.

Lyrics
[Verse 1] Just step into the dark, it’s waiting Take your vow, it’s time Time for you to meet your maker Playing God tonight
[Pre-Chorus] You’re insane, have you gone too far Who’s to blame for what you are
[Chorus] If you believe yours is the only way Then you’re a fool who lives to die Well you deserve the hell you’re gonna pay On the other side Once you reach the other side Once you reach the other side
[Verse 2] The trigger warm, anticipating The ritual’s begun You think that heaven’s gates are waiting But only hell will come
[Pre-Chorus] You’re insane, have you gone too far Who’s to blame for what you are
[Chorus] If you believe yours is the only way Then you’re a fool who lives to die Well you deserve the hell you’re gonna pay On the other side On the other side Once you reach the other side
[Bridge] Fade to black, you’ll see in time You will only be denied
Fools will only be denied There will be no paradise Fools will only be denied There will be no paradise, yeah
[Chorus] If you believe yours is the only way Then you’re a fool who lives to die Well you deserve the hell you’re gonna pay On the other side On the other side Once you reach the other side
[Outro] Once you reach the other side There will be no paradise Once you reach the other side There will be no paradise, yeah
