  • New Job!

I was going to hold off on announcing this, but I am very excited to say that I will be joining Blacknight as part of their Support team starting mid-September.

The past year and a half has been a roller-coaster for me. It took me a while to get a job in the first place with the Pet Shop and I am very grateful to my boss Jamie-Lee for everything that her and the rest of the staff has given me over the past year.

Starting with just some communication skills and a computer knowledge, I joined the Pet Shop as part of JobBridge and then became full time from March and now here I am, joining a company that is not part of the JobBridge or some Government scheme…not going back on the dole and not going back to local college.

My confidence with customers has greatly improved, my social skills has increased, my customer service towards to customers and suppliers has been developed and I would not have got those skills without them. Thank you to Mary, Paul, Jamie-Lee and Brendan. It has been a huge honour working with you all 🙂

But now, as I am now going to be working at Blacknight, I will unfortunately have to leave Monaghan and move to Carlow which means that I will be moving out of the house and living away from my parents, which is very very weird to me…But I am 23, it’s time for me to grow up and move on with my life.

I am looking very forward to be joining the Blacknight team.

There is so much I want to say right now but my emotions are all over the place haha.

  • My day to Carlow

I don’t get out often but when I do, it’s never ever far. So today I went out of Monaghan today and took a trip to Carlow.

Never been before, but I certinely enjoyed it. Took a couple of photos from the beautiful park.

Would I come back? Most definitely. A lot bigger than Monaghan and more populated. It would be a ‘breath of fresh air’

So why did I come down? I had the opportunity to have a job interview with Blacknight. I won’t know for a week or 2 if I have got the job or not, but if I do, I will probably be moving to Carlow.

So, as I make this blog post, I am on the train back to Dublin with a big smile on my face and my future starting to build. Even if I don’t get the job, it will defiently make a lot more confident in my interview skills.

Right, let’s get back to Monaghan and let’s get back to my little Nologam community 🙂

  • PFN Update & Life Update!

    Hi everyone,

It has been a long time since there has been a post on this blog…and that is for a couple of reasons which I will go through very quickly.
    1) I have been working a great deal and just haven’t had the chance to sit down and do a proper blog post.
    2) I have been working mostly on Nologam. We are growing a steady rate with newer people joining the server and the community every day. We are looking to get the rate of new members increased, but what is more important is activity.

Over the past year, I have had a simple landing page for Gamers and Geeks with a simple ad about becoming a part of the network. Initially, my plan was to create a network where users from network members could discover new sites, communities and blogs and thus increase activity and exposure. I have had one email regarding that…and that went down the pan.

For now, we are going to keep the name ‘Gamers and Geeks’ as a network name and use that for Nologam and then maybe change it if we get any new members into the network.

As for this site, I closed it off a couple of weeks ago because Spam bots had got in and I was getting emails like crazy, but I have re-opened it with a new Spam filter thing called “CleanTalk”. If you use it, let me know how good it is. I am really interested because I may consider getting it for Nologam since there is a bit of a spam bot problem (but most of the staff seems to be dealing with them before I get to them which is awesome).

For the future going forward, well, that is something that I haven’t decided on. There is a lot happening outside of the PFN to start something new. I feel that at the moment, I should stick and try to improve Nologam and get the results that I am ultimately looking for, rather than wasting my time, energy and money on something that isn’t going to be around for a long time.

Now, onto my life stuff. Oh boy, what a up and down time we have had over the past 6 months of this year. My grandfather left us just a few days before his 80th birthday from Motor Neurone Disease and of course, it was a massive shock to me as it is the first family funeral that I have ever encountered. Even now, nearly 5 months on from his death, it is still surreal that he is no longer with us. The house is just not the same and it’s hard for me to go into the sitting room at times because I expect him to be there in his seat watching the TV. I explained this in the previous blog post, so there is no point in writing it out all again.

    My health…oh boy…
Ever since I was born, I have had a Twisted Gut and thus have had problems with going to the loo. For the past few years, it has gotten so bad that the left side of my stomach (from my POV) was inflated like a balloon and it hurted. This wasn’t trapped air. This was my bowel full. I was in bed from the Saturday to a Wednesday and then I went to a doctor and he gave me a suppository and if that didn’t work, then I had to go to the hospital.

After having this problem for so long, the suppository worked. And I started emptying my bowel. It took about 6 sleepless nights for me to empty my bowel. 6! Unbelievable. Since then I have been going at least once a day to make sure everything is right. That is ok, but as of a few days ago, I have seemed to miss a day and now, I can’t go (but I am working on resolving so…hopefully I will be ok)

Anyway, that is enough from this long winded post and hopefully you haven’t been grossed out!

  • RIP Thomas Fahy. 1935 – 2015

So last month, I posted about my grandfather not being well. 8 days after that post, he passed away…

It has been a difficult month since then. The only grandparent that I grew up with has left us and it’s still surreal to this day to think that he has died. At times,  I think that he is in the sitting room watching the TV, but only to see darkness from the empty sitting room.

The death of my grandfather has hurt me hard. There would be times where I would have to go to my room or the toilet at work and just have a cry… I miss him so much. All the mass cards that have been sent to us, all the visits from people that he met down the years all came to the wake and sympathised with my parents have been a reminder that he is gone and that he will never come back. He is now with his wife, my grandmother who I never met in heaven.

This time of year he would have loved. The lovely spring days waiting for the sheep to lamb, the football being on and his favorite horses would be running at Cheltenham.

He loved his horse racing, he would never be a huge betting man, but he would have a flutter during big/major events. Not hearing those races now is something that I will miss. He would always ring family at home in Galway and ask about how John Fahy the jockey would be doing on the horses.

He was always a family man. He would ring up his nieces and nephews in Galway to check up on them and his brother and sister in USA and England respectively.

There is so much that I want to share about him, but I would be here all night… But here is the final words..

I miss you granddad. You will be dearly missed.

  • Away from everything.

Just very busy at the moment looking after my grandfather who is not doing very well. His breathing has got a lot worse in the past couple of months and now there is more pains and aches from him on a daily basis.

Still working away, 9-5. Sometimes being at work can distract me from the issues that is going on at home, but at the same time, I want to be home to look after him.

Everything has taken a bit of a backseat for a while. Nologam has taken a bit of a backseat and I have put another admin in charge for a while. Gaming is just non-existent at nights now, but if I can play for about 10 mins, then I am happy.

There isn’t really much I can talk about other than what I have already mentioned, but for more active comments about what is happening, I am on the Twittering machine, @PadraigFahy

    Thank you 🙂

  • I broke down at work today…
