Me + Web Development

Since 2008-ish, I have been creating websites on the net.

I started when I was 16 and created PopGamerzz (Yeah…That was a name) which started out my gaming forum and it was created and hosted on Forumation (which I still think is a great company to start a community with). I stayed there for about 2 years before making the jump to a actual self-hosted forum running phpBB3. That is where everything went downhill.

Also, staying in 2008 for one more sentence, I started my blog on wordpress.com (which is still available by clicking the link) on September 11th and moved to a self-hosted WordPress blog exactly one year later. From there PadraigFahy.com had a blog hosted and then I moved it to Tumblr until August last year when I went back and hosted my own blog on WordPress and on a host (Blacknight)

In 2009, I changed the name of PopGamerzz to “Games World Forum” (Brilliant right). It got some traction, but no one really stayed, so that became a flop.

By the end of 2009, I had met a fella who hosted the first iteration of Gamers and Geeks for me before going out on my own in mid 2010. Since then I worked on Gamers and Geeks day and night to get it right. I was happy with it, but no one way there to see it at all. I said to myself “I must be doing something wrong”, so I changed things around and before I knew it, I had changed the site that many times, that returning people didn’t bother to sign up.

It was at that time that I realised that everything had gone to shit and there was no way that I could back to having a small community like I had with Games World Forum in 2009.

In late 2012, I had a idea of creating a gaming website that would host matches and scores and having eSports news, but that project at the time was (and still) is too big for me to take on my own. The idea was scrapped early on and another domain name wasted. (VGIRE btw)

In January 2013, I asked my friends on Facebook if they wanted to create a clan for playing games. It cam with a lot of positive feedback and everyone was happy. I thought this was the start of something big for me (and of course for the people involved), but that was quickly shot down after 6 weeks when everyone left for another clan, leaving me with the site that was doing nothing, so I made Cyber Enemy my new community. I bought a dedicated server and spent time getting it right and also getting the forum right, but nothing.

No one has come since and the only thing left that I have in this cyber world is just…this…My blog.

This isn’t something that I was willing to admit to myself. But now I have. I have created failed sites and now projects that I am undertaking and being over-shadowed with this thought in my head that it is going to fail, because I know it is going to fail.

So, where am I going with all of this then?

Over the past few days, I have been watching YouTube tutorials on MySQL and PHP and how people can create CMS’, forum software and other applications but my motivation for creating these sites because I know that no one is going to look at them or even use if I was to do style it and make it appealing.

I think that PadraigFahy.com is the last site that I will be making and maintaining for a while. I just don’t have the motivation to create something.

Welcome to the new padraig.blog. If things feel off, please let me know on Mastodon
